Description
A collection of 63 vintage wine labels mainly from the late 1950s-1960s with handwritten notes that made memories for a couple as they enjoyed wine over the years. I can imagine them in the “mad men era” deciding to start this collection to recall which wines they enjoyed or not so much! Some comments include:
Taste buds have deteriorated due to drinks will comment more fully on remaining three bottles
Several bloody Mary’s..,goose, duck..,probably not quite ready at the time we drink it
Escargot sweet breads, 2 bourbons before well spaced, Polly was ecstatic and greatly enjoyed it myself but was too dull tongued from food to really be able to judge, but still think it’s the best wine I ever had
cheese soufflé with crab sauce a perfect wine with this meal, Polly and I really liked this
cherries Jubilee, one bourbon some wine, Polly doesn’t like it and should be served with less sweet desserts
A dollar wine we enjoyed several times
This wine not up to this meal is it has a trace of bitterness but bouquet is fine altogether a good table wine
Steak, Italian salad, baked potato and sour cream, beer before dinner, fairly grapy tasting and not bad for an inferior type wine
And old standard through the club days
Roast beef stuffed baked potatoes, had drank beer before dinner wine definitely not equal to the meal
Don’t remember being very displeased with this nor did I want to rush out and buy more
One Manhattan before dinner, had a sweetness of Bordeaux but a bitter aftertaste Polly liked it better than I did
Roasted Cornish hen, 2 Bourbons before dinner was good compared to usual stuff and was perfect for the main course
Red counterpart to the wine with the Clorox taste
Lobster soufflé, no drinks before dinner definitely will drink again
Enjoyed fall of 1964 I would like to try it again
Every time I drink one of these I swear I’m giving up on Rhône
Two martinis, lamb a bit light for this meal OK but not outstanding
Our standard good wine throughout the fall of 1964 through spring 1966 during which time we participated in the demise of two cases of it.
Christmas day 1965 several bloody Mary’s goose and the trimmings drink with a 59 had a nutty flavor no complaints just what we wanted
Our favorite cheap domestic white wine during first year and half of marriage we tried something else then this then something else then back to this.
Should have waited a year.
Wine labels date from 1955-1967. Included are domestic wines as well as from Spain, Germany, France
