Vintage VMI Cadet Wool Coatee and Wool Blouse (Mens) Virginia Military Institute

Description

Up for bids is a Vintage VMI Cadet Coatee.  The Coatee is off a first class private from the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. It appears to be from the 1960s, but the Coatee designed has changed little since the Civil War.  This design sports numerous VMI Cadet (Keydet) buttons, and cropped coat tails which legend proclaims as being cut from the jackets to serve as bandages for wounded cadets at the Battle of New Market in 1864, a fierce battle in which the young cadets of VMI turned the tide if the battle with a bayonet charge.
The jacket is sized 38" chest, 30" sleeves, 31.5" from the top of the collar to the to of the tails.  There is some minor wear to the piping along the top of the collar (pictured).  Given this item's age, minor wear should be expected, but the jacket is in great condition considering.
