    PLICKETT
3-String Hourglass Shape Mountain "Plank" Dulcimer
A vintage 14 fret Plickett Business three-string wooden hourglass style Appalachian "plank" dulcimer. Made circa 1960s-'70s.
    Measures 24 x 5 inches x 3/4 inches thick.
Very good vintage condition but will need a new set of strings (one is broken) before playing.
14 fret plastic fretboard is numbered for instructional learning.
Stamping on back reads: "Made in America by PLICKETT BUSINESS Pat. No. 4,128,072".
    Notes:
Other listings for this model have stamping that reads "Made in America by Taylor & Taylor " with the identical 4,128,072 Patent number.
One of the Taylors might refer to Tut Taylor who played a similar dulcimer on the T.V. show, Hee Haw. Although the lettering and plastic fret board were obviously from the same shop, the shape was of a rectangular board and was referred to as a Plank Dulcimer.
There is also a similar Plickett brand double-bout (hourglass) dulcimer in the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History Museum made by Tennessee Dulcimer Works in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1976. This dulcimer was specially made in commemoration of the United States Bicentennial.
