    Description

Signed on back and inside sound hole Sam Carrell 5 string teardrop American Black Walnut (is written inside with date and signature etc.) dulcimer vtg beautiful Appalachian 1982 Townsend. Has a few scuffs and dings commensurate with age. The overall appearance is quite nice condition. Sam Carrell worked for Bill Davis but then went on his own and made his own business. Beautiful instruments. I was "phone friends" with Sam before he passed away. He recommended tuning with A for the bass but said anything up to C was fine. The VSL is almost 29 and the overall length of the dulcimer is about 40". Sam Carrell also built fiddle-sided dulcimers like Davis, but Carrell was the one who developed this lovely teardrop style. You can read about him at Revel's Music and other places on the web. These don't come around too often. Thanks for looking!
