    Description

From an estate sale in Florida.
Up for bidding is a very rare limited edition Robert Fletcher 3 string wood dulcimer.  The wood itself is in very good condition.  The Robert L. Fletcher stamp and edition number is inside.  There are a few issues with this dulcimer which I will try to explain (I have no expertise with this type of instrument).  There was only one owner of this Dulcimer and he purchased it directly from Robert L. Fletcher in the 1970s.  He was learning how to play the Dulcimer and placed small pieces of taped numbers as shown in the pictures.  I have not tried to remove these as I am not sure how it would affect the wood.  Second issue, this Dulcimer is missing a string and obviously will need to be restrung.  I was told it had been carefully stored over the decades in a climate controlled environment in order to protect the wood.  The string pegs seem to turn smoothly.  I have carefully examined the wood throughout, along with the string pegs, and I see no cracks or chips.  The overall length is 38".  The width when measured at the widest point is 6 1/4".  When placed on its back, the Dulcimer measures 3 1/2" tall.
I found an interesting article about Robert Fletcher although I am sure fans of the Dulcimer are already quite familiar with Robert L. Fletcher.  It is from the July - September 1993 issue of Dulcimer Players News (pages 22-23).  It is an interview with Fletcher.
