    Description

    This is a Mastertone dulcimer,
built and signed by Jim Good
    and Brenda Good, Gandeeville,
Va.. They build dulcimer for over 40 years. This one is dated 7-31-1994.
It is #8 of the ones they made with the rounded top and back. I was told this was done by hand carving to give the rounded shape.
It is a 5 string dulcimer, but can be strung for 3 or 4 strings if desired.
This instrument has been played a lot.
The wood of the fretboard shows a lot of wear on the finish in the strum area.
(See the photos of that area.) Also there are two dents, as though it had toppled over and hit something hard.
They are on each side of the fretboard near the tuning end. None of the dings affect it's playability, just it's looks. (See photos).
The fretboard is 3/4” deep, 1 5/8” wide.
I am not certain of the wood used in this instrument. I have stated that it is light walnut, or possibly butternut. I know that he used both woods at times.
