Description
For auction I have an outstanding art glass basket made by Wilhelm Kralik Sohn of Eleonorenhain Bohmen (Bohemia) which is now the modern day "Czech Republic". I call this pattern "Swirling Waves" and It is very similar to a Loetz decoration I have seen in the past. The basket is a good size as it stands 12" tall and is 8 1/4" wide and 5 1/2" deep at the widest part of the basket. The basket display a very beautiful pattern of Iridescence moss green waves and Swirls running throughout the piece. The iridescence is on the Inside and outside of the basket. The decoration also reminds me of the King Tut Decoration made my Tiffany, Durand and other early American Manufacturers. The decoration is applied to the basket as you can feel the ridges of the decoration above the surface of the base glass. The decoration is applied to a clear glass base. The basket has a very nice applied clear handle that is accented with small round rosettes that hold the handle to the basket. These rosettes are almost Identical to a Loetz basket that I had many years earlier but I am told by the folks writing the updated Kralik, Rindskopf and Loetz site that this is a Kralik basket
The basket is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The piece is not signed but is definitely of European origin. The basket does display a counter sunk polished Pontil. This is the finishing sign of a quality piece of art glass.
Purchase with confidence as these decorated baskets are quite rare. I would consider this piece to have been made circa 1910-1925.
