From the frustration of learning on my own, the frustration of workshops that often just confused me, and the lack of any teachers in my area, I taught myself to play the hammer dulcimer.  I wrote the chord booklet to help beginners understand chords and start using them to play hammer dulcimer in an easy and enjoyable way without the struggle I experienced.  This method has been used in many workshops, at festivals, and in private lessons over a number of years with great success.

The entire booklet is color-coded and based on the instrument itself.  It covers major, minor and 7th chords.  Every detail is explained step by step.  It takes you from finding notes on your dulcimer to making embellishments with chords.  You can move as fast or as slow as you want.  All you need is a dulcimer, two hammers and the desire to learn while having fun and actually "playing" on your instrument.

NOT color-coded or embellished
.  For hammer dulcimer it just has the simple melody, schematic with melody notes indicated, names of notes that are in the melody, and words to the songs.  It also has information for other instruments, including mountain dulcimer tab.  There are 19 songs.  Check it out if you would like to be able to jam with other beginners.
