4th Year West Point Distinctive Unit Insignia Pin US Military Academy ca 1940s

This is a 4th year Distinctive Unit Insignia Pin from West Point Military Academy in New York.  It belonged to my neighbor who attended in the 1940s (he is in his 90s now).  My hubby happened to visit West Point recently and he took this pin in.  The director confirmed the age of the pin and said they are a different size [larger] now.  He said the black pin still indicates a senior cadet and is to be respected.  It is about half an inch across.  The black shield is enameled and shows wear.  The insignia on the front is gold metal and shows wear.  The single pin on the back is in working order.  This pin was worn every day, so it shows quite a bit of wear but is in nice used condition.   A small piece of military history.
